Introducing our absolutely positively delicious Americano Chilli Blend. A few of you I am sure see the word CHILLI and might think no, nope, not for me. Don’t let the word chilli discourage you. This Americano Chilli Blend is not hot.
Our American Chilli Blend also referred to as American Chilli in the USA is chilli free but full of flavour, a flavour that packs a punch.
The background to this blend came from my obsession with Tex-Mex food. I was recently at the local library looking at cookbooks and found an amazing cookbook that included American Chilli in a lot of their recipes. So, the inner detective in me started researching and reading up a lot about this blend. I searched my local stores and then went online to find it. There is no such thing online called American Chilli powder. Which had me stumped. What on earth are these recipes asking for then?
Long story short in the USA what they refer to as Chilli Powder is not what we in Australia and I believe in the UK call Chilli Powder. American Chilli Powder is an actual spice blend (and what I was trying to locate). In Australia Chilli Powder is literally ground chillies, nothing BUT ground chillies.
There are hundreds and hundreds of recipe versions of this blend, so I had to roll up my sleeves and really play around with ingredients and quantities, ratios to make this blend the way I like it.
Our Americano Chilli Blend is aromatic and savoury, and I love that at first taste the dried oregano is blossoming through. Then the garlic rolls around your taste buds and then you get a little SLAP all thanks to the teeny tiny amount of cayenne pepper that I have added. I swear I feel like a witch at times. Throwing her ingredients in to her cauldron, mixing and stirring and then BOOM the magic happens.
Each person’s tongue and taste buds can taste and feel different flavours, what I taste, and smell is both subjective and objective.
Our Americano Chilli Blend can be tailored to your specifications all you need to do is email me and let me know. Stock standard flavour is mild to moderate in spice (all due to the cayenne pepper). If you prefer more of a kick, I can make it kick! The smell is so robust. I absolutely love it.
How to use it I hear you ask? All that’s needed is one tablespoon pert 500grams of minced protein of choice/faux meats. It can be added to tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, chilli con carne, pasta bakes, as a rub on beef brisket. There are infinite possibilities, and I would love to know how you use it.
