I am so proud, delighted and overtly excited to present Zoitsa Homely Produce’s…. Australiana Blend.
This is an original blend that I came up with and I am so very proud of it. This blend came about one Saturday night/morning. Everyone had retired for the night, and I was wide awake and totally bored. It was 2am and I rummaged through my spice cupboard (and damn it’s a big cupboard) and pulled out some indigenous herbs and spices that I had. I recall looking, smelling, and tasting these herbs and my brain just went into overdrive.
I order all my indigenous herbs and spices from a company called Warndu. I absolutely love this company and what they have to offer. (This is NOT a paid partnership/sponsorship). I cannot recommend them enough. Their motto reads: “Because every Australian pantry needs Australian Native food in it.”
I couldn’t agree with their statement more. I stumbled across these guys a while back and they are awesome. The word Warndu in Adnyamathanha language means good. And GOOD it is! Their mission is to regenerate culture, community, tradition, Heath, and soils. They are an indigenous owned and run company operating from their farm in The Clare Valley in South Australia. I can’t wait to visit them in person soon!
I have tried and used many of their products and I will slowly start incorporating them in my blends. The tastes are sensational and really and truly turn an ordinary meal into something extraordinary.
I digress…. Back to my Australiana Blend. I played around and around with this blend and BOOM SHAKALA its perfection. Packed to the rafters with our vegan chicken stock, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, sweet paprika, sea salt, dried saltbush, wattle seed. onion powder, celery seeds, a touch of sugar, mustard powder, our curry blend, and the SMACK that just made this blend amazing…. lemon myrtle powder.
The Australian Government, more specifically The Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation has done heaps of research on Indigenous Australian herbs and spices. Their research indicated that indigenous herbs and spices contained a lot of Vitamin E and folate and were rich sources of lutein (a compound essential for eye health), along with magnesium, zinc and calcium which aid in self repairing of human DNA. Fascinating stuff!
Our Australiana blend is smoky with a smoothness to it. A softness so to speak. There’s no heat at all in our blend and there is a dash of pepper which comes out last. It’s a unique and quirky tasting blend and it can literally be used on anything. From meats, to vegetables. As a dry rub. As a seasoning. In soups.

To make an easy meal after work I have started cutting, marinading and then freezing my chicken with this blend. Defrost it overnight and then its very fast to make a quick meal. The Australiana flavours just add something a bit different to the mix.
