Welcoming our Baharat to our store. Baharat is also commonly referred to as Middle Eastern Spice Mix or Middle Eastern 7 Spice Mix.
Baharat is a common spice blend that is used in Middle Eastern cooking. The word Baharat literally means “spices” in Arabic.
Like most spice mixes and blends, the recipes for Baharat vary from region to region, households to households, and of course personal preferences. The ingredients can vary all depending what country the spice blend is being made, and the ingredients vary slightly all depending what country is making theirversion. Our version is a combination of many variants and we have put our stamp on it.
Baharat is commonly used on proteins such as lamb, chicken, beef and fish but it is also known to be added to rice dishes, soups, casseroles and stews.
Our version of Baharat does not include any salt it’s just a beautiful collection of herbs and spices ground down or milled together to create a deep, mildly sweet yet smoky blend with absolutely no spiciness. It has a gorgeous rust like coloured hue, and it is truly delicious. It is extremely aromatic which is why I would recommend not using too much. It’s warm and its earthy.
Baharat can be used during cooking for added flavour (a seasoning) and it also can be used on finished dishes by using it as a finishing seasoning.
The beauty of Baharat is that there are many ways to use it, and you will find many recipes that include Baharat online/cookbooks. Its exemplary as a spice rub, all you need to do is simply add 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, a pinch of salt and 2-3 teaspoon Baharat, mix to a paste and then smear all over your protein of choice. Use about 1 teaspoon to 500 grams of minced beef/chicken/pork at time of cooking. As a seasoning just add a pinch. As always, the possibilities are endless.
