Our Butter Chicken Spice Mix has landed and man it’s so good! It’s taken me weeks and weeks to get it right. There were a lot of tears from my end as I just couldn’t replicate what I had eaten at a restaurant. And just when I thought – “that’s it, I’m not doing this” it all fell into place so beautifully.
Zoitsa Homely Produces version of Butter Chicken Spice Mix is loaded with cinnamon, smoked paprika, coriander seeds, cardamon, cumin, ground ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper and the magical ingredient Zoitsa Homely Produce’s Garam Masala. It is milled to this dust consistency and its delicious.
I was late to the party when it came to Butter Chicken. I can thank my dearest hubby for introducing me to this dish many, many, moons ago. I haven’t looked back and it’s a dish that is well loved and eaten in my home. I wanted to make a spice mix to make my life easier when cooking. I knew that if I could make the mix pre-blended and pre-made, I could just grab my stash and cook dinner so much faster. As much as I love cooking there are times when I just want to cook something quick, delicious, and preservative free as I can.
I’ve tasted and I have used Butter Chicken sauces that you find at the supermarket that are in jars and they were ok… I just felt that there were lacking in flavour, and I guess the word is a tad lacklustre. I want OOMPH in my food. I want flavour that hits you.
The history and origin behind this dish came from Amritsar, Northern India. In Punjabi they call Butter Chicken Murgh Makhani. Butter Chicken is apparently the most popular curry dishes in the world. Legend has it that chefs made a Chicken Tikka with heaps and heaps of butter and then to stamp their Punjabi roots they added MORE butter as a garnish and called the dish Butter Chicken/Murgh Makhani.
Butter Chicken is a very “rich” dish, but a dish that you can adjust to suit your pallet. If you’re not familiar with Butter Chicken I guess the easiest way to describe it is that it is a succulent, lush dish that has pieces of chicken smothered in cream, tomatoes and dollops and dollops of butter. Is it fat free? Hell NO. Is it delicious? Hell YES.
There are heaps and heaps of recipes out there on how to make Butter Chicken and I have a few versions of it. If anyone is interested send me an email and I will gladly pass on my recipes.
This Butter Chicken Spice Mix took me a while to perfect, but I am really pleased with the result. So, from my kitchen to yours, please enjoy!
