Yes, it’s more Tex-Mex. I’m sorry…okay maybe not… Let’s welcome Zoitsa Homely Produce’s Chilli Con Carne Spice Mix.
There really is something about Tex-Mex food that I absolutely love. The aromas, the tastes, yum…so delicious.
Our Chilli Con Carne Spice Mix is rich, smoky, tangy, earthy, and really very healthy.
There are two types of Chilli Con Carne, the first being with meat and the second which is called Chilli Sin Carne which is without meat. Any style I’m in for it. It has to be one of my favourite comfort foods.
Some believe that Chilli Con Carne is Spanish. Others believe its Mexican. The name Chilli Con Carne is Spanish, and it literally means “chilli peppers with meat”. It is essentially a stew that’s filled with beef, beans, and chilli. For some, like me, it is a dish that is without any meat, Chilli Sin Carne. I reckon I’m a closet vegan. The reality though its neither Spanish nor Mexican. Its roots stem back to San Antonio, Texas. It’s as Tex-Mex as can be!
Let’s take a ride and go back in time and learn all about this glorious flavoursome dish. Chilli Con Carne was created at the beginning of the 19th Century back in San Antonio Texas. It was initially just a simple stew that was made by women called “The Chilli Queens”. These women made massive quantities of the stuff in their homes, using huge pots, and cooking over open fires.
They set out tables and booths at the San Antonio marketplaces and sold individual portions to everyone from the local families, to businessmen, to soldiers, to musicians. Just pause for a second, as a woman owning a running her business, its women like these that make me so proud. The independence and the fact that there were doing anything they could to make a buck and feed their families. I digress….However, some argue that the Chilli Con Carne dates back much, much further.
Chilli Con Carne is clearly a classic dish and one that is loved far and wide all over the world, and there are so many recipes on how to make it. You can add many different ingredients, but one thing remains the same it’s a bowl of deliciousness however you want to make it. There are countless and I mean countless of recipes out there. Some add corn chips to their chilli con carne, others add dark chocolate, some add corn, some add bacon.
Zoitsa Homely Produce’s- Chilli Con Carne Spice mix is stacked with dried Kashmiri Chillies, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and both sweet and smoked paprika.
We hope you love our Chilli Con Carne Spice Mix as much as we do!
