Zoitsa Homely Produce would love to unveil our version of Crazy Salt.
I had never ever heard about this or seen this salt blend until a few years back. I was out shopping with one of The Mumma Tribe…Azumi. (Everyone say HI to Azumi!). Azumi saw the original Krazy Mixed Up Salt and seriously folks…she went crazy!
She was so overjoyed that she had finally found this salt in Australia. Azumi explained to me that she used this salt a lot back in Japan and she was telling me all about it with so much enthusiasm and… joy. To hear my friend rave on about a product the way she did then I knew it had to be good. So, I purchased some for myself and I used it all up…and it was phenomenal.
Clearly this blend held an insurmountable amount of nostalgia and sentimentality for her, but her reaction was really rather contagious. I wanted what she was talking about it.
I eventually ran out of my jar, so I rolled my sleeves up and made my own version. I had to recreate this salt blend not only for myself but in due course for you guys, my loyal customers.
Our Crazy Salt is salty, peppery, garlicky and the heavenly flowering taste of sage just blossoms through. It is so tantalizing and as whacky as this sounds…it actually tastes fresh. The aroma is simply amazing.
Sprinkle it on anything from meats to vegetables to sauces, to popcorn and my all-time favourite – on eggs! Even more so when added to scrambled eggs. On salmon, on tofu (YELP! Just divine) On chicken, in salads, it is astonishing sprinkled on top of a home-made pumpkin soup. It will awaken your dish with just a sprinkling.
Personally, I believe our version tastes a billion times better than the store bought stuff (sorry goes out to the creator of the original Krazy Mixed Up Salt – Ms Jane Semans).
I read so much about the creator of the original Krazy Mixed Up Salt – Ms Jane Semans and I have to say I actually fell in love with this woman. She has inspired me so much. Her story was back in the early 70’s Ms Semans began her journey in a small sized kitchen in Overbrook Philadelphia where she would mix up all sorts of salts and herbs and spices to make gifts for her family and friends (that’s how I started out). Her passion for creating and concocting blends turned her little hobby into essentially an international worldwide sensation.
If I may quote Ms Semans: ““I don’t feel anyone should actually retire, but should keep busy meeting people. When you start a business at sixty like I did, you realize that age is not important. It’s the enthusiasm.”
Ms Semans was a one woman marketing machine! She was constantly on the go and approaching people and stores and making sure her products were out there. For me, this is so relatable! I am always out there trying to get my products on the shelves. It can be demoralizing and can really lose one’s confidence. The rejection is a huge kick to one’s ego. I honestly admire this lady so much…but enough about me.
If you want to enhance your meal, then this is the blend for you. It is a delicious and versatile blend that will linger on your tongue and on your palate. I guarantee you that your family and friends will comment on the exceptional and unique taste of your food.
