Zoitsa Homely Produce would love to introduce you to our Curry Blend…
I absolute adore our Curry Blend. I love to make it and I love that the aromas fill our kitchen. For me, our curry has a sweetness and a spiciness to it. A contradiction to my senses.
As always, I try to keep all our produce Australian made and locally produced, if possible, I only use Australian grown fresh curry leaves.
We spend hours dehydrating the leaves before making this delicious blend and we toast our herbs and spices to perfection before we mill them to this fine dust. By toasting our herbs and spices the oils are released and this makes the fragrance bloom. Our version consists of cardamom, coriander, cumin, mustard, turmeric, cayenne pepper and cloves. We add no salt, no sugars or any fillers, nasties, chemicals, or preservatives.
Our Curry Blend version and let me say there are thousands upon thousands of versions of curry blend out there, ours is a mild to medium blend as I find that the hotter it is the less enjoyable it is for my family.
Our version is silky, golden, warm, robust, and smooth with just the right amount of heat. It’s an extremely versatile blend that works well not only in Indian cuisine but Japanese, Thai, Malaysian and Jamaican cuisine to name a few.
Time for a history lesson because when I first heard about this it literally blew my mind into tiny little particles!!! I always thought that curry was an Indian spice mix. Then I learnt that the “concept” of curry powder was actually a British invention!!! (Have you picked up your jaw from the ground yet? Or did you know about this??). In fact, the term “curry” is a British take on the Tamil word for “Kari” which refers to meat. Clearly…. CLEARLY, I wasn’t paying any attention in school. History lesson over.
All Indian dishes start with a specific spice mix, or a masala and these mixes vary depending on the region and the dish. The British version was loosely based on the North Indian Spice Mix of Garam Masala.
Our Curry blend is lovely on meat, tofu, fish, vegetables or over rice. I use this blend in my slow cooked mild chicken curry. Just one tablespoon mixed with coconut milk.
Our Curry Blend is used to make our French Onion Blend as well as in our Nuts & Bolts Mix.
I hope you enjoy it too and I would love to share my Slow Cooked Mild Chicken Curry recipe with you sometime.
Chow down my friends!

This spice was the reason I tried making a curry sauce!!! With very basic ingredients too.
My chicken, some veggies, fresh cream and the curry blend! ok I used some other seasoning too
(chicken salt, veggie stock and a pinch of the fajitas blend – for some extra spice-all zoitsa).
All I can say, no more ready sauces for a curry!!!
Irene
