Zoitsa Homely Produce would love to introduce to you our Fish Seasoning….
My family loves seafood! We love to have fish and chips on a Friday night when I just can’t be bothered cooking. We used to refer to it as Greaso Night. Greaso, because our local chippie makes the most heavenly fish and chips oozing with oil.
Sadly, times are very tough for a lot of us. So, I had to tighten the reigns on our grocery shopping and our “eating out” expenses.
Fish is something that can be a light meal or a heavy meal if that makes any sense. Meaning in summer fish is usually served with a salad and its “light” then in colder months we add more vegetables think potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower. We tend to eat “heavier” meals like fish soups, fish curries, fish stews, fish pies and so forth.
Most white fish can take on a very delicate, sweet, and buttery taste. Then you have fish like salmon, herring, sardines, and anchovies which are darker in colour but have more of a pronounced flavour due to their fat content, they are also well known for their heart healthy Omega-3 Fats.
I love my fishmonger (Shout out to Con) as every time I go visit him, he has a tendency to roll his eyes at me and say (even before I have asked him) – that HIS fish is all responsibly and ethically sourced. Let me elaborate a little bit. Sustainable and ethically harvested fish are exposed to less chemicals and more importantly (to me) the fish are taken care of better. In turn this leads to healthier fish and tastier fish. Responsibly farmed seafood have also been produced in a way that minimises environmental impact and protects the workers’ rights.
So, Fish and Chip night is now something we have at home at least once a fortnight. For me, fish needs seasoning. Whether it be the everyday salt and pepper, lemon, marinades, parsley, dill, soy sauce etc. So, what does one do when they want something different, unusual? They come up with their own fish seasoning of course.
Our Fish Seasoning is packed with mace, peppers, paprikas, mustard powders, allspice, ground cloves, ginger, cardamon. It’s a combination of sweet and savoury and peppery spices and its simply gorgeous! The peppers are the first thing that you taste and then slowly the ginger and the cardamon roll through. It’s quite an exquisite taste.
I’ve used it on Vegan Battered Fish Free fillets, and it was delightful, but we regularly sprinkle our seasoning on Hake and Flounder as these fish are my family’s favourites.
As always, we add no fillers. No additives. No sugars. No chemicals. No nasties. Nothing but spices.
Safe for vegans, vegetarian, ketogenic diet, paleo.
Enjoy!
Bon Appetit.
