Yes, you read that correctly!  It’s a Plant Based Parmesan and damn its soooo good!

Yes, I can hear you asking…” but why” and I say “but why not?”

Now before I go any further and I need to say something as I have had a lot of people ask me.  Am I a vegan? And “Why do you make so many vegan blends?’.  I am not a vegan.  I am what I refer to as a Gastronome! I am a lover of good food.  I love to try all different types of foods; I love to eat…just not cauliflower (gag).

So, the background on this deliciousness goes back to Easter 2021.  It was Good Friday; all the shops were closed.  I had forgotten to purchase some Parmesan cheese for that night’s dinner.  We were having Spaghetti Bolognaise.  What the hell was I going to do?  You can’t have Spag Bol without parmesan cheese.  

So off I went and started researching alternatives.  I could shred some tasty cheese but nah, I could sprinkle some mozzarella but nah… and just when I thought there was no other alternative a recipe popped up that was similar to ours. 

So, I made it.  I tasted it and hid beside the refrigerator as I kept eating it.  It was delish! When dinner was ready, I sprinkled the plant based parmesan on everyone’s dinner and was greeted with nothing but praises and how delicious the dinner was.  My son kept asking me if I had altered the recipe at all.  I remember telling him that no it was just the cheese.

I then spent that entire weekend tweaking the original recipe we used.  I always want to put my stamp on everything I cook.

Does it taste like Parmesan Cheese?  I reckon it does.  It’s not the EXACT same but there is a cheese like taste to it.  It’s made with walnuts, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, nutritional yeast, garlic powder and salt.  I really do have a love affair with nutritional yeast I must add.  I love the stuff!

I was fascinated to learn that “non-dairy” cheese originated in China in the 16th Century.  Back then it was made with fermented tofu or whole soy.

Our Plant Based Parmesan really does have a nutty, earthy, woody, cheesy, Unami flavour.  It’s deep.  

It’s packed with excellent vitamins.  Hemp seeds are packed with amino acids/proteins.  High in Omega-3 and Omega 6.  The nutritional yeast contains all the 9 essential amino acids and Vitamin B.

Don’t knock it until you try it. It’s really delicious!

As we always say…we add NO nasties. NO Chemicals. NO anti-caking agents. NO weird chemical additives. NO fats, NO oils, NO sugars, NO thickeners, NO preservatives.
