Quesadilla Spice Mix

Zoitsa Homely Produce Welcomes Quesadilla Spice Mix to our inventory, and boy oh boy it’s so good!

We love Mexican food in our home. The spice…. the taste…the seasonings…. just delish!

Mexican cuisine whether it be tacos, nachos, quesadillas, Mexican rice, burritos, enchiladas, tamales are on high rotation in our home.  We all love it and I classify this cuisine as quick and easy to prepare and get on the table fast.  I tend to make a lot of our Mexican dishes when I am time poor, or my son is HANGRY and needs food quickly.

There are thousands upon thousands of versions of quesadilla spice mix out there.  You will find packets on your supermarket shelves.  The difference between what you find on a supermarket shelf as opposed to our version is that we add nothing but herbs and spices.

This was an adventure to research Quesadillas and the spices used.  So here we go…. Mexico is rich in culinary history.  Mexican food in general is considered an essential part of Mexican culture and traditions. What’s interesting to me is that towards the end of the 20th Century Mexican inspired foods came into the mainstream.

Mexican foods and seasonings can be found not only in Mexico but all across the world.  We have all become lovers of this delicious cuisine and taste.  From Japan to the USA to the UK to Australia…all over the globe.

I guess it’s safe to say that we have “bastardized” Mexican food and made it our own version, but it’s still damn good!

It was fascinating to learn that corn tortillas were a very popular dish amongst the Aztec people many, many, lifetimes ago.  The Aztecs though, stuffed their tortillas with squash and pumpkin and baked in clay ovens and this version was considered a dessert.  It wasn’t until 1521 when the Spanish settlers bought in cows, lambs, and sheep to New Spain.  (New Spain consisted of Mexico, much of Central America, parts of the West Indies, California to Florida, and the Philippines.)

Because meat and dairy products were introduced the indigenous people added cheese to their corn tortillas, and this is where the birth of the quesadilla began.

Quesadillas are made with various fillings such as beef mince, chicken mince, vegetables, pork, chicken thigh pieces, faux meats.  Along with cheeses, condiments, salsas, guacamole, sour cream.

In my home we love our Beef Quesadillas and after using packet mixes and being dissatisfied with the flavour (and not to forget all the rubbish that they tend to add in these packet mixes) the concept of our Quesadilla Spice Mix came into fruition.

Our Quesadilla Spice Mix is packet to the rafters with onion powder, oregano, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper and a teeny tiny amount of salt.

Our version has been a massive hit with my taste testers and during these school holidays my Beef Quesadillas have been on high rotation feeding my sons friends for lunch.

We just can’t get enough of them!  I personally believe it’s the taste of our blend that has made them such a huge hit.  They’re not spicy in the least and well tolerated for younger children who have yet to develop a good, refined palate.

As always, we add NO nasties. NO Chemicals. NO anti-caking agents. NO weird chemical additives. NO fats, NO oils, NO sugars, NO thickeners, NO preservatives.

Our Quesadilla Spice Mix is Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Allergen Free, Keto Friendly and Kid Friendly.

¡Buen apetito!/Bon Appetit
