It’s with great honour and respect that Zoitsa Homely Produce presents our Rosemary Salt.
I can practically see everyone scratching their heads in wonder and thinking why is Irene saying the words “honour” and “respect”.
Let me elaborate…I wanted to do something special for Anzac Day. I wanted to create something with symbolism. I wanted something to commemorate all our Anzac Soldiers from the past to the present to the future. These women and men who had and have sacrifice their lives for our country. These amazing humans who had and have and will put their lives on the line for OUR freedom. This is something a lot of us really do take for granted.
We decided that our Rosemary Salt would ONLY be available in 100 Gram Pouches for $13.00. We will donate $ 3.25 from each and every Rosemary Salt Packet sold to our favourite charity – The Wounded Heroes. If you’re interested in finding out more, please visit: www.woundedheroes.org.au. (previously known as The Deployed Soldiers Welfare Association). Wounded Heroes offers immediate financial assistance to our veterans and is seriously a wonderful cause. This will always be in place, and will occur on all sales of our Rosemary (not just today, or tomorrow).
But why rosemary I hear you all ask? Rosemary is a very aromatic herb that has significant benefits such as antimicrobial , anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, anti-apoptotic (anti-apoptotic functions are extremely important in the context of cancer cell survival), anti-tumorigenic(to counteract the formation of tumours),antinociceptive (the body’s response to potentially toxic stimuli like harmful chemicals) and neuroprotective properties (neuroprotection refers to the mechanisms and strategies employed to defriend the central nervous system against injury due to acute trauma or stroke and chronic neurodegenerative disorders like dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy) . There is also clinical evidence of amazing effects on mood, learning, memory, pain, anxiety, and sleep.
Since ancient times rosemary has been believed to improve one’s memory and it is an ancient symbol of fidelity and remembrance. Rosemary also grows wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey, where a lot of our young boys and men served in World War 1.
Rosemary cuttings from Turkey (Turkiye) were planted in nurseries throughout Australia in the 1980’s to support Avenues of Honour. I have an Avenue of Honour close to me and every time I park my car in this street, I ALWAYS will touch a tree and say a quick thanks under my breath. Please visit: https://avenuesofhonour.org/places and you will be astounded with how many Avenues of Honour we have in Victoria.
I digress…in time the rosemary became a commemorative symbol to help us remember those who served and those who died. Wearing rosemary is now a traditional symbol of remembrance and commemoration in Australia. On Anzac Day and Remembrance Day you will notice a lot of Australians wearing a rosemary sprig usually pinned on the lapel of the coats and jackets or near the heart.
So, knowing all this, the sprig of rosemary was what made me go down this path and after a few weeks of playing with rosemary and salt Zoitsa Homely Produce’s Rosemary Salt came to life.
Our Rosemary Salt is a beautiful salt blend that can sprinkled over anything! On homemade hot chips, to potatoes, to vegetables, to meats and in place of your everyday plain salt to really add more KAPOW flavour!
The Hubster and I are very passionate about many causes, and we have a few firm favourites that we donate as little or as much as we can to every year. This is something the Hubster and I have done since we first moved in with one another. Even though we don’t have a lot whatever we can spare we donate.
I close this entry by saying – I thank all our Anzacs for their service and Lest We Forget.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
