Spicy Ramen Seasoning

Lastly…our Pas de trois of our ramen seasoning collection. Our hot and spicy and delectable Spicy Ramen Seasoning.

Whilst traditionally the Japanese cuisine is not really known for being spicy there has been a growing interest in spicy foods in Japan. It is known that a lot of Japanese people are “experimenting” with hot spices and sauces. I would hazard a guess to say it is due to the younger generation who are travelling more abroad and experiencing different cuisines and cultures.

Having said that the Japanese do have hot and spicy condiments that are extremely popular in Japan. These condiments are more to add a touch of heat to their dishes without overwhelming or overpowering the other flavours of their dish.

We have all heard about wasabi (yeah…uhhh…no thanks) the spicy green horseradish paste that we see a lot when ordering sushi. Then we have Shichimi Togarashi which was introduced to me by my dear friend Azumi when I needed a “kick” to my pumpkin soup (and look out that is coming soon to Zoitsa Homely Produce soon). Shichimi Togarashi is a blend of 7 spices and is commonly sprinkled (sprinkle, not pour all over your food!) on noodle dishes, udon, soups, and grilled meats, and lastly Yuzu Kosho which is another spicy paste made from the chilli peppers and Yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit and is delish).

How our Spicy Ramen Seasoning came to fruition was out of sheer boredom from my end. I had a dreadful flu and I needed soup but yet I was hungry and wanted something more substantial. So, I mixed a bit of this and a bit of that and came up with it. I then used it in a ramen bowl using pork and miso and it evolved into my Spicy Miso Pork Ramen and it is what I reach for when I am sick. It’s fabulous for those who love a spicy noodle dish (so it’s not just for when you’re feeling sick). As mentioned in many blog posts I do send out my recipes using Zoitsa Homely Produce on purchasing any of our products, so my recipe will come packaged to you on ordering our Spicy Ramen Seasoning.

As mentioned in my previous Ramen Seasoning blog posts there are 4 main types of ramen. We have Shoyu, Shio, Miso and Tonkotsu. What I have based our Spicy Ramen Seasoning on is on a miso style ramen.

The beauty with not only this seasoning but with everything we make it is all organic, Australian grown (where possible) products from Australian farmers and its very versatile. Our Spicy Ramen Seasoning can be added not only to ramen bowls but can also be added to stir fries to give them a kick and can be used as a meat rub for grilled chicken, beef or pork. It is beautiful in a fish curry, and it really works well and is well suited on fish like: Salmon, Barramundi, Blue Eye Trevally, Flathead and Whiting.
