Its finally here! Our Taco Seasoning has just dropped and let me tell you this seasoning has taken me 16 months to perfect. A lot of trial and error and a lot of and I mean a lot of changes made all thanks to my beloved taste testers.
That’s the thing when making my seasoning and spice blends. Just because I like them doesn’t necessarily mean that YOU guys are going to like them. A lot of research went into this creation. We have eaten and tasted so many tacos these past 16 months and I believe we have finally got this seasoning spot on.
We are huge taco fans! On high rotation in our home is my chicken and sweet corn tacos. If you purchase this seasoning, you will receive my infamous Chicken and Sweet Corn Taco recipe.
The history of this taco seasoning stems back to a few years back when I found generic store bought taco seasonings were filled with fillers and nasties and rather…. bland. There was always this weird “floury” aftertaste that I just didn’t really like. So, I decided to make my own. I am avid cookbook collector and I started going through all my Mexican cookbooks and reading and researching different types of spice blends that Mexican cuisine uses.
I started to play around with my “creations” by adding a little bit of this, a little bit of that. Adding more spice, adding less spice. We are a family that likes spice but cannot tolerate that after “burn”. My young man especially cannot tolerate burn. Is there a difference between hot/heat and burn? I believe so.
The version I’ve created is a little spicy, but it doesn’t burn. It’s warm, its smoky with a zesty flavour and is tolerated well within our home. That’s the beauty of our seasoning is that you can use as little or as much as you want to get to the right heat that your palette can tolerate, and what you like.
The beauty of our taco seasoning is that there is not that much salt added, so if you’re watching your sodium intake then rest assured, you’re in good hands here.
I would recommend 2 teaspoons of our seasoning for every 500gms of protein. Having said that though I would suggest that you start with ONE teaspoon, taste test and THEN add another teaspoon should you want more oomph. And that my friends is the secret to good cooking. Start with a little, allow it to cook, and then adjust accordingly.
This seasoning adds tons of flavour to your ground meats for tacos, but don’t think it’s just for tacos. It’s an adaptable seasoning that is delicious in burgers, a divine addition to soups, stews, casseroles, dips (YES Dips!) and delicious sprinkled on roast chicken. I recently made guacamole and added a teaspoon to the mix and it really amplified the taste. It was pretty awesome if I say so myself!
The use of our seasoning is limitless. Good way to get creative in the kitchen and experiment. I would love to know how you use it.
I truly believe that our taco seasoning turns plain tacos into a fiesta explosion!
Buen Provecho (Bon appétit)
