Test Tube Tea Infuser

Here at Zoitsa Homely Produce we don’t only make and sell candles, herbs and spices, seasonings, masalas, blends, but we also sell Tea Infusers (as well as lots of other things that I will slowly introduce).

A lot of research went into finding kitchen supplies, homewares and products that are sustainable. I’m sick and tired of buying crap and then throwing it out, and then repurchasing it again to have it break and throwing it out again. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.

I am aware of my waste. What I use. How I dispose of things. I’m really, like really into sustainability and how WE, all of US, can do better for our world, for the future for our kids.

When I started making loose leaf tea blends, I began researching tea bags, tea strainers, re-usable tea bags. What was biodegradable, what was better for our planet. I try and be conscious of my daily practices. We are depleting our natural resources and it worries me.

There is some debate that tea bags, everyday tea bags are not degradable. I’m in two minds about this as if there is tea in the teabag should that not degrade the bag?  Some say yes it does, other say they don’t.  So, I kept delving deeper and looking around to find a safer solution and I came across our Test Tube Tea Infuser.

Our Test Tube Tea Infuser is made from Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a type of glass that contains boron trioxide which allows for a “very low coefficient of thermal expansion”.  In other words, it means that it won’t crack under extreme temperature like some other regular glass. It’s extremely durable and this type of glass is the type of glass some high end restaurants, laboratories and wineries prefer to use. Borosilicate glass is “food-safe” and does not contain any form of lead or cadmium.  What I love about it is that it takes longer to cool down than your everyday regular glass. It’s also lead and BPA free.

Our Test Tube Tea Infuser is fitted with a cork. Cork is biodegradable and breaks down completely without releasing any nasty toxins into the environment.  Cork is incredibly sustainable, natural, and renewable.

I feel that this Test Tube Tea Infuser works perfectly with our Sticky Chai.  I used a biodegradable tea bag, a tea strainer, and a silicone tea strainer when I was testing out our Sticky Chai and I felt that it was perfect for brewing. It has slits positioned on the sides of the test tube to allow water to seep in steep in. Its dishwasher safe (and yes using a dishwasher is much better for the environment as it uses less water than hand washing), but I prefer to soak the cork stopper in some warm water and then dry it out on my kitchen bench rather than placing it in the dishwasher. My personal preference is to soak my tea infuser after use in a cup of hot water and then using a brush I can get any dregs out.

If you care for your Test Tube Tea Infuser, it will last you a very long time.

Raise your pinkie finger and sip your tea/Bon Appetit
